Q. What does your Storage range include?

A. The storage range of products includes all products devoted to expanding your data storage capabilities. These include hard disk drives, tape backup, optical drives, media duplication, backup & recovery, plus accessories such as cables and PCI cards.

Q. What does your Accessories range include?

A. Our Accessories range has been put together to create a single source for all your mobile or desktop PC accessories. From laptop luggage to physical security measures, travel and power accessories to ergonomic soultions to enable a comfortable working enviroment.

Q. Why does upgrading help the environment?

A. According to a 2004 study by the United Nations University, the amount of energy used in manufacturing a typical desktop computer is equivalent to burning 260kg of fossil fuels. Upgrading components instead of purchasing a whole new machine saves a huge amount of energy, not to mention saving you money at the same time.

Q. Who are Hypertec?

A. Hypertec are a supplier of IT Memory, Storage, and Accessories. We have been working in the UK IT channel for almost 2 decades and have many loyal customers from blue chip multinationals through SMEs, to individual consumers.

Q. Why upgrade?

A. Upgrading memory helps your computer make the most of the processor's capabilities, whilst hard drive upgrades increase the storage capacity - your system will run more efficiently and suit your needs for longer.

Q. Why should I work ergonomically?

A. If you work at a computer - be it a desktop or laptop - you are in danger of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), eye strain, backaches, and other upper limb disorders. Using the correct ergonomic IT equipment can help you avoid injuries of this type.

Q. What is ergonomics?

A. Ergonomics involves arranging the workplace to suit the worker; it's not a guessing game, it's an application of scientific knowledge to the design of objects, systems, and environment of human use. Hypertec provides IT equipment to assist people in workiing ergonomically - from laptop stands that raise a screen to eye level, to mice that hold the hand in a natural form.

Q. What guarantees do Hypertec offer?

A. Within a product's warranty period, Hypertec offer a return to base warranty, and will repair or replace any product found to be at fault (not faults caused by user error). The technical support team are available from 8:30am to 6pm by phone or email, and with no irritating answerphones you can be sure you will always get straight through to someone that can help you.

Q. Why is my PC running slowly?

A. There are a myriad of reasons that a system could be running slowly, however one of the most common is that the software applications you are using are using too much memory for other functions to run alongside. This can be fixed by simply upgrading your Hypertec memory to a bigger capacity.

Q. Where can I buy Hypertec products?

A. Please click here to see our list of resellers. Hypertec have a strict channel policy, so whilst we are happy to give you advice and support, we won't actually sell you products directly - instead you'll have to go to one of our reseller partners.

Q. I have a suggestion for your site...

A. Great, please email our marketing manager with any suggestion for the FAQs, Guides, 'How To...' guides, or the website in general.

Q. How can I become a Hypertec reseller?

A. Contact Glenn Ward (Sales & Marketing Director) on 0870 243 5603, or email

Q. Does Hypertec sell software?

A. Hypertec are primarily a hardware supplier. However, we do supply software as bolt-ons to some of our hardware products; for instance our USB flash drives come with security software, whilst our external hard drives carry security and backup software; enabling people to make the best use of their purchases from us.

Q. Why brand products we buy?

A. The branding option is extremely popular with organisations both large and small. Many like to brand products to fit them in with their corporate styling, others include a return address in case of a lost or stolen item, and several include serial numbers so they can keep track of which employees are using which product. Giving an external employee goods to use makes them a walking advert for the company.

Encrypt Plus FAQs

Q. I have forgotten my password; can I get my data back?

A. No, without a valid password you will be forced to reset the device, erasing all the data.

Q. I cannot save my data, the device says it is “Read only”.

A. The Encrypt Plus comes with two partitions as standard. One featuring the unlock tool and the other for transporting data. After unlocking the device with your password, look for an area labelled “Removable Disk” in My Computer and attempt to save any files there.

Q. The lock tool is unresponsive/not opening.

A. Check for any instances of “EncryptPlus.exe” in Task Manager. After closing any, attempt to run the lock tool again. If this is unsuccessful, download the following version of the tool; http://www.hypertec.co.uk/downloads/public.zip.

Q. I have forgotten my password; how do I reset the device?

A. Enter six incorrect passwords and the drive will automatically reset to factory settings.

Q. The device is telling me to run in administrative mode, what does this mean?

A. This suggests the limit of 6 incorrect password attempts has been exceeded. Insert the device into a machine that has local administrative rights to complete the reset.

Q. When I click on the removable disk in Explorer it says ‘Please Insert Disk’?

A. The device may be locked, check the drive status using the lock tool.

Q. When I plug in the drive nothing happens and the light does not flash?

A. The device may be faulty, please contact support for a replacement.

Q. Does the lock tool work on Windows 7?

A. Yes, the lock tool has been tested on both 32 and 64bit versions of Windows 7.

Q. Does lock tool work with both Administrator and User accounts?

A. Yes, the drive works with both accounts, however to perform a reset administrative rights are required.

Q. I plug the device in, I can hear the USB insertion noise but no drive letters appear?

A. It is possible the removable disk section has the same drive letter as a network drive causing a failure. This may happen on Windows XP SP2 (This Issue was fixed in Win XP SP3 and with a Microsoft hotfix for SP2). To resolve this use the disk management snap in to change the allocated drive letter to an available drive letter.

Q. I run the security tool in a USER account but after a delay is tells me to insert the device. I have checked and I can see both sections of the device.

A. It may be that the system registry has been restricted for USERS and the required keys are not accessible to the lock tool. Please contact support for more information and a list of the keys involved.
